Why do my breasts become painful when I am about to have my periods??

Important tips:

·        Menstrual cycle is caused by the changes of several hormones in the body.
·        These hormones also affect the breast tissue in addition to the lining of the uterus.
·        The breast tissue undergoes cyclical changes through the menstrual cycle.
 These changes include;
·        increase and decrease in size of the tissue as well as other changes in the cells.
The breast tissue of some individuals is more sensitive to the effects of these hormones than others. You may be highly sensitive to the effect of these hormones. This is probably why you have painful breasts around your periods.
However, you should not ignore your symptoms. You should consult your doctor who can examine you to make sure that there is no other problem.

Important tips to help you get rid of the pain;
·        Use highly supportive and fitted sports bra during exercises.
·        Use soft- support bra if your breasts hurt in the morning
·        Reduce anxiety- induced pain with relaxation therapy.
·        Use an ice pack to reduce pain due to swelling.
·        Consume foods that are rich in omega – 3 fatty acids.
·        Eat plenty of high- fiber foods
·        Commit to low- fat diet to decrease your hormone levels.
·        Cut down the amount of sodium you eat.

There are other reasons why this pain may be severe;
o   Presence of abnormal growth (uterine fibroids), endometrial polyps, a condition called endometriosis etc. can cause severe pain.
o   Any person complaining of period pains must be evaluated to exclude any of these conditions.
o   If your pain is persistent consult your Doctor, as they can probably prescribe some appropriate medications to help decrease the pain.
